30 Years. 30 Stories. One World as it Should Be.

In commemoration of our 30th Anniversary, we want to highlight the many people over the years who have made MIUSA so successful. A variety of people who have been involved with MIUSA will be interviewed by Shelley Snow, MIUSA Board member. You may not know their names, but these people have been crucial to empowering people with disabilities from around the world.

 

Christa Bucks

Home Community: Washington D.C., USA

Christa traveled for the first time without family on an international program with MIUSA in 1988. After 2½ years of working with MIUSA, she followed her dream and went into the Peace Corps. Read more.

Home Community: Duluth, Minnesota, USA

Anna participated in the 2009 U.S./Costa Rica: Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Disability Rights Leadership Exchange Program, and she is now pursuing a teaching degree at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. Read more.

Megan is in her first year of employment with MIUSA but her relationship with the organization goes back a ways…to when she was just 15! Read more.

Mark has experienced MIUSA from a variety of perspectives: as a homestay host, board member, delegate, and teacher/group leader. He acknowledges that being a delegate offers amazing travel opportunities, but he says, “It’s much more than that.” Read more.

 

Catharine Scruggs

Home Community: Portland, Maine, USA

Catharine served as the CIEE liaison to MIUSA in the mid-90s. CIEE is a non-profit, non-governmental organization promoting multicultural learning through educational exchange programs. Read more.
