EAIE Conference Goes Global in Glasgow

Date:

This September 15th to 18th, Europe’s largest international higher education conference is heading to Glasgow, Scotland. Whether you take the high road or the low road to get there, don’t miss it!

Connect with MIUSA staff and other members of EAIE’s expert community on Access and Inclusion (ACCESS) throughout the conference and at the following disability-related events and sessions:

ACCESS Reception

Discover how you can make study abroad a great experience for students with disabilities at this reception hosted by EAIE Expert Community Access and Inclusion (ACCESS). Join ACCESS on the Mezzanine Balcony of the SECC where they will be celebrating the launch of guidelines for international officers on inclusive study abroad programmes. Pick up your invitation to this reception from the EAIE stand at the Exhibition or at the ACCESS Feature session. Invitations and entry are on a first-come, first-served basis. Please bring your invitation for entry to the event.

Session 2.05 – ACCESS Feature session: Making Erasmus+ work for disabled students

There are still barriers to inclusion in higher education for people with disabilities, especially while studying abroad, in areas such as transportation and availability of support. The EAIE Expert Community Access & Inclusion (ACCESS) will centre on how to make Erasmus+ more inclusive, focusing on factors that enable and challenge the free movement of students with disabilities. It will also highlight the outcomes of research by European Action on Disability within Higher Education (EADHE).

Session 7.11 – “Your secret is safe with us”: Creating an atmosphere of trust

One of the more personal challenges in higher education today is maintaining open lines of safe communication for students with diverse cultures, backgrounds, abilities, religions, identities and preferences. This session will discuss how to support students who are reluctant to share ‘secrets’ or other information that keeps them from realising their full academic or social potential and how to create a safe space for communicating those secrets.
