Journey to Disability Inclusion: Fulbright Training in New York

The National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange (NCDE) was invited to share resources with Fulbright staff about including people with disabilities in their programs.

As a program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), the Fulbright Program is committed to ensuring that its efforts reflect the diversity of U.S. society and societies abroad. Fulbright programs are administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE) on behalf of the State Department and provide grants to study, teach, and conduct research to U.S. citizens to go abroad and for non-U.S. citizens to come to the United States. The Fulbright Program is active in more than 160 countries.

Topics for the “Journey to Disability Inclusion” half-day training on January 29, 2016 included:

  • National Clearingouse on Disability and Exchange: History and Purpose
  • Americans with Disabilities Act: Rights and Responsibilities
  • Program Planning for Disability Inclusion
  • Access and Technology: Accommodations and Inclusive Programs
  • Recruiting People with Disabilities

Additionally, attendees heard from a U.S. Fulbright alumni with disabilities about how his experience has impacted his personal and professional life.
