Breakthrough: The Women, Faith, and Development Summit to End Global Poverty

The Women, Faith, and Development Alliance (WFDA), a group of internationally focused faith, development, and women's organizations, has launched a collaborative campaign to highlight the urgent needs of women throughout the world. WFDA members work in partnership to increase investments in the advancement of women by governments, multilateral institutions, and private entities. WFDA partners include some of the most influential individuals, organizations, youth leaders, community activists, and corporations from around the world.   As a member of the WFDA, MIUSA is proud to be a part of this powerful new force dedicated to engendering global efforts toward poverty reduction.

On April 13th, 2008 the Breakthrough Summit brought together women, faith, and development communities to make commitments to end gender inequity and global poverty by increasing investments in women and girls. MIUSA's CEO, Susan Sygall, served on the Breakthrough Summit Leadership Council to ensure that the new campaign would include a disability perspective. As part of our commitment, MIUSA will provide consultation to committed Breakthrough partners to ensure their projects include at least five percent of women and girls with disabilities as beneficiaries, staff and/or advisors. Through these new partnerships, we will work toward ending the historical discrimination and exclusion of disabled women and girls in international development. The goal is to reach the poorest of the poor so that women with disabilities can become active participants in civil society and future leaders of their countries.
