MIUSA's International Development and Disability Timeline
1995 – MIUSA initiates the first international symposium on issues of women with disabilities at the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing.
1997 – MIUSA hosts the 1st International Women’s Institute on Leadership and Disability (WILD)
1998 – MIUSA joins InterAction, the largest coalition of U.S.-based international nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) focused on the world’s poor and most vulnerable people.
2000 – MIUSA guides InterAction in amending the Private Voluntary Organization (PVO) standards to include people with disabilities. These standards ensure that people with disabilities serve as providers as well as participants in member agency services and programs. Read InterAction's PVO Standards.
2000 - MIUSA hosts Global Options for Women with Disabilities in Leadership and Employment.
2001 – MIUSA releases a groundbreaking report: Building an Inclusive Development Agenda: A Survey of 104 InterAction Member Agencies on Inclusion of Women with Disabilities.
2001 – MIUSA launches Building an Inclusive Development Comunity: Gender Appropriate Technical Assistance to InterAction member agencies. MIUSA’s partner organizations include MercyCorps, American Friends Service Committee, Church World Service, Holt International Children’s Services, and Trickle-Up.
2003 – MIUSA hosts the 2nd International Women’s Institute on Leadership and Disability (WILD).
2004 – MIUSA publishes Building an Inclusive Development Community manual.
2004 – MIUSA provides training to Trickle-up staff members on inclusive development in Mali.
2005 – MIUSA provides training to MercyCorps staff members and representatives from Iraqi DPOs on inclusive development in Jordan.
2006 – MIUSA expands the Building an Inclusive Development Community project to provide field-based technical assistance to DPOs in Ecuador, Guatemala and Albania.
2006 – MIUSA publishes free online booklet, Moving Towards Inclusion: Stories of People with Disabilities in International Development.
2006 – MIUSA hosts the 3rd International Women’s Institute on Leadership and Disability (WILD).
2007 – MIUSA awards eight small grants to disability-led organizations in Ecuador, Guatemala and Albania.
2008 – Builing and Inclusive Development Community Project exands to a fourth country.
2008 – MIUSA hosts the 4th International Women’s Institute on Leadership and Disability (WILD)
