Building an Inclusive Development Communtiy: A Manual on Including People with Disabilities in International Development Programs
A “toolkit” for development agencies and others concerned with the inclusion of people with disabilities at all levels and in all areas of the international development.
MIUSA, in collaboration with other NGO's, has developed a new publication "Building an Inclusive Development Community: A Manual on Including People with Disabilities in International Development Programs". The Manual combines new materials created specifically for development organizations with revised and updated excerpts from other MIUSA publications. The Manual serves as an information and resource tool to international development organizations to ensure the inclusion of disability issues and people with disabilities in their organizations and programs. The manual covers a range of topics relevant to international development agencies relating to both organizational structure and staffing including such topics as management practices and human resource development and legal policy issues as well as field program implementation issues related to the range of development work including public health, civil society and education among many other topics. Included in the manual is a "Checklist for Inclusion", an organizational self-assessment tool to assist organizations in developing action plans to increase the inclusion of people with disabilities in organizational governance, management and programs.
MIUSA's International Development and Disability web page will document the progress of the project and will offer success stories and recommendations, resources, advice and ideas to address "frequently asked questions" related to inclusion of people with disabilities.
