The AIF Clinton Fellowship for Service builds bridges between America and India by sending a group of outstanding young American leaders, ages 21 to 35, to work with leading non-profit organizations in India for ten months. Fellows must have an undergraduate degree and be a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident. Fellows have worked in a variety of fields including primary education, micro-credit, HIV/AIDS and human rights.

Institute of International Education  has partnered with the Inter-American Foundation (IAF) to administer its Grassroots Development Fellowship Program. The IAF was created in 1969 by the United States Congress to fund the self-help initiatives of the organized poor in Latin America and the Caribbean and the groups that directly support them. IAF is reactivating its fellowship support for dissertation work by candidates for Ph.D. degrees from U.S. universities.

The IAF accepts applications from students in the social sciences, physical sciences, technical fields and the professions as related to grassroots development issues. The awards provide international transportation to the field research site and a monthly stipend for a maximum period of 12 months. Fellows must have advanced to Ph.D. candidacy by the date they begin their IAF-sponsored research.

The Instituto Sacatar operates a residency program for creative individuals in all disciplines at its estate on the Island of Itaparica in the Bay of All Saints, across from the city of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Sacatar is a member of Res Artis, the worldwide network of artist residencies. The purpose of the Instituto Sacatar is to provide artists a place to live and create and to generate opportunities for artists to interact and collaborate with the local and regional community. The Instituto Sacatar sponsors residencies for highly-qualified individuals in all creative pursuits. Approximately twenty fellowships are awarded to artists of all ages, all nationalities and in all creative disciplines. There is an application fee of $35.00, payable at the time of submission. The fellowship provides airfare, studio, room and board for eight-week residency sessions.

The Mickey Leland International Hunger Fellows Program is a two-year initiative that begins with a one-year field placement in countries throughout South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America. The following year is spent in Washington, D.C. at national nonprofit organizations working on hunger and poverty policy. The fellowship trains emerging leaders in the fight against hunger and provides them with a broad understanding of the problem of hunger, the skills necessary to contribute to a solution, and the personal experience that puts faces and names to these issues.

Fellows receive a monthly stipend, a housing supplement, transportation allowance during the policy year, comprehensive health care plan, worker's compensation, and evacuation insurance, a yearly allowance for professional development, relocation allowance, and end of service award to help fellows transition to the next phase of their career.

The YES Abroad for Americans program offers 50 full scholarships for high school students from the United States to study abroad for up to one academic year in countries with significant Muslim populations. Scholarships include program fees, pre-departure and arrival orientations in Washington DC, secondary health insurance, and placement with host families. Applicants must be high school students at the time of applying and between the ages of 15 – 18.

The NSLI for Youth program offers 550 scholarships for high school students from the United States to travel abroad and study critical languages, including Arabic, Hindi, Korean, Mandarin, Persian, Russian, and Turkish. Toronto Rehab is offering students with disabilities planning to study for a Master’s and PhD at one of six Canadian universities a chance to apply for this $20,000 scholarship. International students are encouraged to apply if interested in a career in rehabilitation science and to make an impact on rehabilitation research.

Many fields of study may be eligible, including but not limited to: Architecture, Biology, Biomedical Communications, Chemistry, Computer Science, Disability Studies, Engineering, Health Policy, Kinesiology, Labor Studies, Medicine, Music Therapy, Nursing, Nutrition, Pharmacology, Physics, Psychology, Recreation Therapy, Social Work, Sociology, Statistics, Women's Studies, etc.

This Canadian $20,000 scholarship also provides an educational disability expense supplement, which funds special educational expenses such as assistive software and devices, attendant services, sign interpretation, and tutoring. Mentoring is also provided to recipients of the scholarship.

Rotary World Peace Fellowships offer two-year master's-level degree programs in conflict resolution, peace studies, and international relations at one of the seven Rotary Centers worldwide. Up to 60 scholars are selected each year to receive the 21-month scholarships that cover tuition, school fees, transportation, room and board, books and supplies, and summer internship, volunteer or research opportunities. The Thomas J. Watson Foundation provides fellowships to graduating seniors nominated by a participating college or university in the United States to engage in a year of independent study and travel abroad following their graduation. The project must be one that can be pursued with independence and adaptability, and it cannot involve formal study at a foreign institution. It must involve travel to areas where the student has not previously lived or studied for a significant length of time.

Princeton in Africa (PiAf) offers year-long fellowship opportunities with a variety of organizations that work across the African continent. PiAf Fellows work in service-oriented positions in many different fields, including humanitarian aid, public health, conservation, and education. Since its launch in 1999, PiAf has place over 200 Fellows in 30 countries. Graduating seniors and young alumni from any U.S. college or university are eligible to apply.  The fellowship covers on-the-ground expenses including housing and living stipend, group medical and evacuation insurance, pre-departure orientation for all Fellows. For early to mid-career professionals and graduate students from United States and the Asia Pacific region. The APLP is a graduate certificate program designed to meet new educational and human resource needs during a time of increasing regional interdependence. During the institute, fellows gain a broad regional perspective, become knowledgeable about the critical challenges facing the region, and are trained to exercise collaborative leadership and promote cooperation toward the well being of the countries and peoples of the region. All APLP participants are granted a Entry Fellowship by the East-West Center to cover the majority of program fees. The value of these fellowships is approximately US$15,000. The fellowship does not include second semester field study in Asia and the mainland United States.

Overseas Fellowships in Global Health and Clinical Research offer individuals the chance to experience clinical research training in a developing country. It includes the opportunity to work with a strong team of mentors and colleagues on important problems that advance people's health. The National Institutes of Health's (NIH) Fogarty International Center (FIC) offers a one-year clinical research training experience for graduate-level U.S. students in the health professions. This is an opportunity for highly motivated individuals to experience mentored research training at top-ranked NIH-funded research centers in developing countries. Fellowships include round-trip transportation, living costs in the host country, and limited health benefits.

Three fellowships are offered for citizens from countries in the Americas (one fellowship is specifically reserved for Colombia citizens), including South America, Latin America, North America, and the Caribbean. Fellowships can last anywhere from one to four months.  Fellows are assigned to actual working positions at a host entity and are expected to participate in hands-on activities. They will remain at the host entity for the duration of their fellowship. The fellowship covers airfare, lodging, living allowance, and health insurance for the Fellow only. The Fellow’s organization in his/her country will cover the salary during the fellowship period.

United Nations Volunteers are sent on assignments related to the mission of the United Nations. Most assignments are humanitarian and peacekeeping operations or development assistance. Requirements stipulate that volunteers need to be 25 or older; hold a university degree or a higher technical diploma; a working knowledge of English, Spanish or French; and several years of relevant working experience. Support includes a volunteer living allowance, health and life insurance, annual leave, and a settling-in-grant paid at the beginning of the assignment. The majority of UNV assignments are based on 6-12 months of renewable service, with the understanding that the UNV will commit to a minimum of one year of service.

The World Youth Alliance is a global coalition of young people committed to promoting the dignity of the person and building solidarity among youth from developed and developing nations. It trains young people to work at regional and international levels to impact policy and culture. The World Youth Alliance invites youth (ages 18-29) from around the world to apply for its fellowship for 3-month internships at its headquarters in New York City or other offices in Mexico, Kenya, Philippines and Belgium.

The objective of the fellowship is to identify and train young leaders to communicate articulately with the international community and larger culture on issues relating to the dignity of the person, human rights, and integral development. Housing and stipends are provided based on need; interns must provide their own meals and air/ground transportation.
