Travelers with Purpose Photo Contest Winners!

We had so many outstanding photographs to choose from, which made the decision very difficult. However, after much deliberation we have selected our top three! Others whose photos will be selected for inclusion in the calendar and screen saver will be notified via contact information on their entry forms. Congratulations to everyone! Keep traveling with a purpose!

This photo was taken in January of 2008 at the Faraja School for students with disabilities while on a study abroad program to Tanzania through the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. The program was called "Poverty and Privilege." Katie writes, "The children live there full-time to eliminate transportation problems for families. I (Katie) am in this picture with students who attend Faraja. The photo was taken by fellow study abroad student, Trina Woiak."

"I can truly say that my experience in Tanzania was an incredible one and certainly one I will never forget. I am excited to go back again some day. As for now, I will be traveling to Denai on the coast of Spain and into Morocco for a few days!"

Katie is a young person with a hearing disability.

This photo was taken by Hillary while on the "U.S. / Bahrain Youth Citizenship for Disability Inclusion Exchange Program" to Manama, Bahrain in March of 2008. Hillary writes, "This is a perspective shot of a pier. People can be seen in the distance and one of them is sitting in a wheelchair, fishing from the pier."

Hillary is a young person with a disability.

 

 

 

 

 

Third Place - Lindsey Newland: Public Transport, Romania - Below the window of a tram is a sing depicting a person in a wheelchair and a thumbs-up next to it.Third Place: Lindsey Newland - "Public Transportation" Arad, Romania

This photo was taken on the tram in Arad, Romania in the Summer of 2008. Lindsey writes, " I went to Romania for 2 1/2 months in summer, 2008 to fulfill one of my social work practicums. My internship was with children at an orphanage in Arad."

Lindsey is a young person with a disability.
