Programs for High School Students

America-Mideast Education and Testing Services, Inc. (AMIDEAST)

AMIDEAST offers high school students, teachers and administrators the opportunity to tailor a program to suit interests,needs and time frame in any or all of AMIDEAST's 11 field offices in the Middle East and North Africa: Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Qatar, Syria, Tunisia, UAE, West Bank/Gaza, Yemen.

Programs for Graduates

Fulbright LogoFulbright U.S. Student Program

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program operates in more than 140 countries worldwide including those in the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia.  Grants are awarded to U.S. citizens in all fields of study to study overseas.  The program offers one academic year of study, research, or teaching assistantship experience in projects that may include university course work, independent library or field research, or professional training in the arts.

Programs for Professionals

Fulbright Scholar Program

Every year this scholarship allows 800 U.S. faculty and professionals the chance to go abroad to lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.

Fulbright Senior Specialists Program

The Fulbright Senior Specialists Program is designed to provide short-term academic opportunities (two to six weeks) for U.S. faculty and professionals. Shorter grant lengths give specialists greater flexibility to pursue a grant that works best with their current academic or professional commitments.

Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program

Awards in the Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program are viewed as among the most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program. Candidates should be senior scholars and have a significant publication and teaching record.

Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program

FTEP provides opportunities for qualified educators to participate in direct exchanges of positions with colleagues from other countries for six weeks, a semester, or a full academic year. In exchanging positions with foreign teachers or administrators, program participants have the opportunity to live and work in the cultures of their host countries, an experience which has benefits for the teachers, their schools, and their communities.

Individual Advanced Research Opportunities (IARO) Progam

The IARO Program provides fellowships to US scholars and professionals for overseas research on contemporary political, economic, historical or cultural developments relevant to U.S. foreign policy.  Limited funding is available for non-policy-relevant topics. IARO is funded by the United States Department of State Title VIII Program and the IREX Scholar Support Fund

Policy-Connect Collaborative Research Grants

The Policy-Connect Collaborative Research Grants Program supports cutting-edge collaborative research on specific topics and regions each year.  Upon completion of the project, scholars will be requested to present their research findings at a Policy Forum at the United States Department of State and to write a short policy paper.  Grants are awarded for research in the following countries:

Algeria, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, West Bank/Gaza and Yemen.
