A Goalball Paralympian Brings Home Gold
Jessie Lorenz competed in the World 2002 Goalball Championships in Brazil, the 2004 Athens Paralympics, and the 2008 Beijing Paralympics. She is an avid blogger about her international goalball experiences and maintains two blogs which tell her Paralympic story. "Sports taught me that high achievement requires cultivating the willingness to both dream big and work hard," she writes.
The USA Goalball team took the silver medal in Athens and brought home the gold in Beijing. Before the game in Beijing, Jessie shared a last-minute update: "We play for gold this evening. I couldn't be more proud than I am right now. What an honor to be on this team playing for my country. Go USA!"
As a person committed to building just, inclusive communities, Jessie has also participated in a leadership and disability rights exchange program to Costa Rica through MIUSA. Today, she is Associate Director at Independent Living Resource Center San Francisco and frequently blogs and Tweets about accessibility and disability-related policy online.
