Dwarf Athletic Association of America (DAAA) was formed in 1985 to develop, promote and provide athletic opportunities for people of short stature. DAAA athletes compete in the following events: track and field, basketball, power lifting, swimming, skiing, table tennis, volleyball, badminton, soccer and equestrian events. Clinics, developmental events and formal competitions are offered at local, regional and national levels. For the National Dwarf Games, athletes compete under age, gender and functional ability classifications. Youth events for athletes ages 8 - 15 emphasize the achievement of personal best and children seven and under can participate in special non-competitive sports programs where everyone is a 'Winner.'  DAAA participates in international events as well, selecting outstanding athletes to compete at the World Championship level, and if they meet the qualifying standards, to represent the USA at the Paralympic Games. In 1993 DAAA hosted the first World Dwarf Games in Chicago, Illinois, where dwarf athletes from all over the world competed. From this gathering an International Dwarf Athletic Federation (IDAF) was formed, and the 2nd World Dwarf Games took place in Peterborough, England in July 1997. DAAA and IDAF continue to support the organization and development of emerging Dwarf Athletic Associations in other countries. DAAA maintains affiliations with the United States Olympic Committee, America's Athletes with Disabilities, United States Disabled Sports Team, International Dwarf Athletic Federation, Little People of America, Inc., and the Billy Barty Foundation, Inc.
