Page Title: Empowering people with disabilities "I believe that all people with disabilities are members of a global family. Working together across borders is our most powerful way of effecting changes.” Susan Sygall, CEO, Mobility International USA National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange Dreams become reality: a young woman using a wheelchair will spend a high school year in England; a college graduate who is blind will teach in Costa Rica; a person with a learning disability will volunteer in the Philippines; a scholar who is Deaf from Kenya will be a Fulbright scholar in the U.S. By building bridges between the international exchange and disability communities, the NCDE encourages people with disabilities to volunteer, research study, and teach abroad. Sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, NCDE offers free advice, referrals, and resources. As ‘change agents’, young leaders and professionals return home to create change on a personal level by developing self confidence, on a political level by developing a rights based attitude, and on a global level by networking with disability groups around the world.
