NAFSA’s Tri-Regional conference brings together international educators from NAFSA Regions I, II, & IV, covering the Pacific Northwest and Alaska, the Mountain States, and parts of the Midwest, respectively.
Our goals for participating in NAFSA’s Tri-Regional conference this year in Denver include reaching international educators who do not attend NAFSA’s national conference and bolstering the capacity of international educators at the regional level to be leaders in disability inclusion.

Who Are You Not Reaching? Creating Accessible Media and Materials
The future of design is designing for accessibility! This session will present basic ways to enhance your social media, videos, website, and other materials so that people with disabilities and others won’t miss out on your messaging. We’ll discuss how to use captions, audio descriptions, alt text and more.
Creating International Allies: Support for International Students with Intersecting Identities
International students who have disabilities, identify as LGBTQ, or have identities not widely shared by their international peers face unique challenges and opportunities. This session will share practices for creating an inclusive environment and discuss how ALL international students benefit from learning about diverse and vibrant communities in the U.S.
Where There’s a Will: Outreach and Advising for Students with Disabilities
While responsiveness to disability concerns on the spur of the moment is valuable, waiting until a disabled student appears before thinking about inclusion can cause your organization to miss out on prospective participants. In this workshop, we will focus on recruitment and advising, that important first phase of study abroad that can make or break a participant’s experience.
