Mobility International USA (MIUSA), a national nonprofit organization working to advance disability rights and leadership globally, seeks an Exchange Program Assistant to join our dynamic team.

Candidates will bring prior experience working in a related field, required skills, and a passion for disability rights. Candidates must be available to work approximately 30-40 hours per week from April - September 2020. This is an entry-level professional position based at our national office in downtown Eugene, Oregon, USA. Duties and responsibilities:

Assists Project Managers and other exchange team members with the planning, preparation and implementation of MIUSA exchange programs. Tasks may include:

  • Plans and assists with logistical arrangements, including but not limited to: transportation, venues, food, program supplies, workshops, meetings, and disability-related accommodations, etc.
  • Works as assigned to ensure full staff coverage during exchange programs (including evenings and weekends as necessary)
  • Assists with activities and trainings as assigned, ensuring safety, successful participation and inclusion of all participants
  • Escorts and/or assists exchange program participants to ensure participant health, safety and well-being of all program participants
  • As directed, communicates with community members in a positive, proactive and professional manner, and notifies Project Manager of any issues immediately
  • Assists with preparing for and conducting meetings and presentations, which may include tasks such as printing documents, creating packets and name tags, notetaking, and setting up AV equipment
  • Coordinates production of materials in alternative formats as needed
  • Revises, updates and maintains exchange-related forms and materials as needed
  • Maintains accurate and well organized files and records related to exchange programs, including correspondence and program materials
  • Ensures accurate and prompt entering of exchange-related information into appropriate databases and spreadsheets
  • Assists with tracking and organizing receipts for financial reporting as directed
  • Works with MIUSA exchange team to ensure accurate inventory and organization of basement storage area
  • As directed, maintains and develops content related to exchange programs for MIUSA’s website and social media outlets (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, Flickr)
  • Assists exchange team and other MIUSA team members with general office tasks (e.g. answering phones, mailings, etc.)
  • Participates in team meetings

  • Adheres to MIUSA’s personnel policies and procedures stated in the policy manual
  • Is CPR/First Aid certified prior to hiring or will get certified before working on an exchange program, unless exempt per MIUSA approval
  • Models MIUSA’s values of full inclusion, equal participation and disability-rights perspectives, as well as enthusiasm, integrity, direction, respect and an optimistic outlook

Desired Qualifications:

  • Two years college education or equivalent; B.A. or B.S. preferred, in international development, disability studies, women’s studies, or related field
  • Excellent detail-oriented, organizational and prioritizing skills
  • Excellent typing and computer skills, demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office applications and the internet
  • Excellent communication and cross-cultural skills
  • Experience coordinating groups and programs
  • Understanding of disability issues from a rights based perspective
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively via e-mail, telephone, and other mediums
  • International development or international exchange experience preferred
  • Understanding of inclusion of people with disabilities from a human rights perspective; experience with inclusion of people with disabilities in international development or international exchange preferred
  • Experience working in a non-profit setting desired
  • Competence in language in addition to English preferred
