All around the world, people with disabilities and allies are celebrating December 3 as International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Through all the changes happening around the world, we can be sure of one thing: it is more important than ever to celebrate who we are as disabled people. We are part of a global movement to achieve our rights and celebrate our own unique culture.
We invite you to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities along with us! Here are three ways to celebrate:
1. Contribute to the 2025 Women’s Institute on Leadership and Disability (WILD)
We’re more than two-thirds towards our fundraising goal and counting! In honor of IDPD, which coincides with Giving Tuesday this year, donors who make contributions of $250 or more in the month of December 2024 to support WILD will receive a “Loud, Proud, and Passionate”® mug! Contribute to WILD.
2. Pursue your international exchange goals
Have you ever thought about traveling between the U.S. and another country (inbound or outbound) to support your professional and personal goals? People with disabilities are encouraged to contact the National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange (NCDE) for advice on how to study or gain professional development internationally! Explore NCDE resources.
3. Visit our page for MIUSA alumni
This page is devoted to all of the fabulous people with disabilities and others who have participated as delegates in one of MIUSA’s exchange programs since 1981. MIUSA alumni from all years and countries are invited to complete a survey by December 23, 2024 to be notified about a virtual alumni reunion that will take place in early 2025! Visit the alumni page.
As 2025 approaches, it seems like the right time to celebrate our community of disabled people and allies and to take positive steps to shape the future we want.
From all of us at MIUSA, we wish all our friends throughout the world a happy, peaceful, joyous and meaningful 2025.
