Thanks to the collaborative efforts of our U.S. Consortium that includes DREDF, IFES and USICD, and our many in-country partners, MIUSA is honored to announce that our RightsNow! project has been selected as a Zero Project 2019 Awardee.
The Zero Project focuses on the rights of persons with disabilities globally, and provides a platform where the most innovative and effective solutions are shared. The Zero Project was initiated by the Essl Foundation in 2008, and its mission is to work for a world without barriers, according to the principles and Articles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
The RightsNow! project provides technical assistance to disability-led organizations, civil society and governments to strengthen the implementation and enforcement of disability rights laws and policies in Armenia, Kenya, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and Vietnam.
Impact
- Over 250 disability-led organizations received technical training on issues such as political advocacy, coalition building, and access to justice
- Over 250 government representatives engaged with disability-led organizations
- Over 1,000 leaders with disabilities sharped their skills to enforce national laws
- Thousands of people visited www.globaldisabilityrightsnow.org and accessed information in Armenian, English, International Sign, Spanish, and Vietnamese
In February 2019, MIUSA will present at the Zero Project Conference in the Vienna Headquarters of the United Nations, sharing the many successes and strategies utilized by the project and our partners.
