Whether you are a high school student, a college undergrad, or working towards your Masters degree, you will appreciate this opportunity to discuss how to add an international flair to your academic pursuits through a study abroad or academic exchange scholarship. NCDE staff cover programs open to U.S. students including, but not limited to: the Christianson Grant, Watson Fellowship, and programs sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs such as NSLI-Y for Youth, the Gilman Scholarship, and Fulbright Student Program.
The high point of the presentation comes from Vickie Johnson, ProFellow Founder, joining NCDE staff on the webinar to share her tips for applying to scholarships. She also shares more about ProFellow as a key resource to find the growing professional and academic fellowship opportunities around the world.
About the Presenters:
Justin Harford, Program Coordinator, Mobility International USA:
Justin works on the NCDE project to increase the participation of people with disabilities in mainstream international exchange by filling the information gaps for professionals and people with disabilities through direct advising, developing a collection of online materials, and organizing workshops. Justin spent the summer of 2008 studying Spanish in Mexico, and the 2010-2011 academic year at the Pontifical Catholic University in Santiago, Chile making progress on his Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin American history.
Vickie Johnson, Founder, ProFellow:
Vickie has earned 4 competitive fellowships since her graduation from Cornell University in 2001. At the age of 30, she became Policy Director for the National Commission on Children and Disasters, an expert body instituted by Congress. Vicki is an alumna of the New York City Urban Fellows Program (2001-2), the German Chancellor Fellowship (2003-4), the Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship (2005) and the Ian Axford Fellowship in Public Policy (2011) administered by Fulbright New Zealand.
