Celebrating the Brilliant and Resilient Photo Book and Traveling Exhibit

WILD woman in a wheelchair holding arms up in success. Photo by Brian Lanker
Three portraits of women: a woman in profile in black and white; a woman holding sign for "I Love You" and wearing colorful garment; a woman making victorious gesture

The Brilliant & Resilient project features a collection of photographs and personal stories of 50 women with different types of disabilities representing 41 countries.

These powerful portraits and vignettes – from alumni of Mobility International USA (MIUSA)’s Women’s Institute on Leadership and Disability (WILD) – illustrate the issues that significantly impact their lives: access to education, employment, political power, reproductive health services, and HIV/AIDS and violence prevention.

The Brilliant and Resilient book accompanies the traveling photo exhibition. All materials are available in English and Spanish as well as audio format.

Revenues from the exhibition and book sales support the next generation of emerging women leaders with disabilities to participate in MIUSA’s women’s leadership trainings. MIUSA’s women’s programs support the implementation of Article 6 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which promotes the full development, advancement and empowerment of women with disabilities.

Be part of an international effort to revolutionize the status of women with disabilities worldwide! Learn more about the history and the catalyst for creating this project by reading Beijing & Beyond History in Documents.

The photos in the book and exhibit were generously contributed by photographers Brian Lanker, Darcy Kiefel and Paola Gianturco.

We want to gratefully acknowledge Palo Alto Software for their sponsorship of the Spanish translation of the exhibit.
